An open-source and feature-packed audio player suite.

For users sick of bogged down software like iTunes yet not interested in more mainstream music management software like Winamp, there's Nightingale.

Nightingale is a free and feature-rich media management application and audio player which is based on Songbird. What's more is its inclusion of Mozilla code making it a web browser, too.

Apart from the built-in web browser, Nightingale includes many of the features you would expect in an extensive media library management program. It plays many of the most common audio formats like MP3, WMA, FLAC, etc. and yet it also plays most of the video formats floating around on the web -- but it's not really designed as a video player.

Managing playlists and adding album artwork is a breeze and editing ID tags of audio files is also supported. Just as Winamp and iTunes, there's little lacking feature-wise with Nightingale. It also fully supports skinning and comes with several pre-installed.

Worth noting: On installation, there are a few plugins which the installer will recommend: Last.FM, Soundcloud, Shoutcast, MashType and mLyrics. These provide access to online data services and streams.

In conclusion, Nightingale is a full-fledged music player which also supports web browsing from within the application.
